SUMMARY
The aim of this study was to determine the differences between certain segments of water polo performance among winning and losing teams at the Cadet State Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The research was conducted on a sample of 7 teams and 21 matches played during the championship. By analyzing the collected data, the authors found a statistically significant difference between successful and unsuccessful teams.
A total of 19 game-performance variables were analyzed, including goals scored, shot attempts, goals and shots during 6-on-5 situations, goals by center players, penalties, defended penalties, counterattacks, goals from counterattacks, sprint performance, fouls, goals from fouls, intercepted balls, corner throws, and shots hitting the goal frame.
The results showed that although the teams were relatively similar in many aspects of play, there were still statistically significant differences that distinguished winning teams from losing teams. These findings suggest that cadet teams possess comparable levels of motor abilities, technical skills, and tactical knowledge, but that specific performance indicators contribute to competitive success.
The authors conclude that more efficient training plans and programs should be developed in order to improve technical, tactical, and motor abilities, as well as to enhance coaching practices in water polo.
