SUMMARY
This paper analyzes the strategic investments of municipalities in Sarajevo Canton in areas intended for children's play and sports activities. Local communities play a crucial role in creating and maintaining adequately equipped sports and recreational facilities, contributing to the safety, development, and well-being of children and young people.
The study aims to provide insight into the number, availability, and quality of safe play and sports spaces within individual municipalities of Sarajevo Canton. Particular attention is given to investments related to the construction of new facilities and the maintenance of existing playgrounds and sports areas.
The authors emphasize the importance of municipal investments in safe spaces for children's play and sports participation. Due to the complex administrative organization of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diversity of approaches to sports infrastructure management, the development of safe recreational environments has often been insufficiently addressed over a long period.
Responsibility for creating and improving safe play areas primarily lies with public institutions, which should establish clear development goals and ensure adequate maintenance of existing facilities. Poor maintenance of playgrounds and sports areas can increase the risk of injuries among children and youth.
Methodologically, the study is based on content analysis and descriptive statistical methods, adapted to the nature of the available data and the research objectives. The findings highlight the need for continuous investment and strategic planning in order to improve the quality and safety of sports and recreational environments for children and young people.
