SAŽETAK
The aim of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Tactical-Technical and Social Competencies of Football Players Scale (TTSCS). A total of 166 football players (N = 81 seniors and N = 85 juniors) from several clubs in the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the research. The average age of all participants was 21.14 years (SD = 4.91), while the average age of junior players was 17.23 years (SD = 0.49) and senior players 25.15 years (SD = 4.21).
Principal component analysis identified four factors that explained 78.78% of the variance in football players’ specific competencies. Based on item grouping, the first factor was labeled Attacking Tactical-Technical Competencies (ATTC), the second Defensive Tactical Competencies (DTC), the third Technical Competencies (TC), and the fourth Social Competencies (SC).
The reliability of the instrument was evaluated using internal consistency coefficients. Alpha coefficient values for both the overall scale and individual subscales were very high. Criterion validity was assessed through correlations with a measure of football players’ self-efficacy. Correlations between self-efficacy and three competency measures ranged from low to moderate. The only competency dimension that did not show a significant correlation with self-efficacy was technical competence.
The results indicate that the TTSCS possesses satisfactory metric characteristics and can be used as a valid instrument for assessing specific competencies of football players.
