Comparison of Winning Points and Penalties Between Different Weight Categories for Female Cadets in Judo
Fikret Bečić, Husnija Kajmović
SUMMARY
The aim of this research was to compare winning points (Ippon and Waza-ari) and penalties (Shido) that determined victory in judo matches among different weight categories of female cadets.
The sample consisted of 1,459 winning points and 163 penalties recorded across eight different female cadet weight categories. The analyzed variables included winning points achieved by Ippon and Waza-ari techniques, as well as penalties awarded through Shido. Data were collected from official competition reports of European Championships, World Championships, and European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) competitions held between 2017 and 2019.
The results of Pearson’s Chi-square test revealed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) among weight categories. The variable that contributed most to these differences was the occurrence of Waza-ari scores in the +70 kg weight category.
The findings suggest that performance patterns vary across weight divisions and that these differences should be considered when planning training and competitive preparation for female cadet judokas. The results may also contribute to the improvement of coaching practice and encourage further research on competitive performance in different age and gender categories.
